Digitization of cultural heritage is currently seen as a highly important task. It has two functions.

Firstly, it offers a suitable way of preserving cultural content, which is now captured in a way that may have a limited lifespan. And at the same time, it allows us to access digitized material regardless of where it is physically stored.

Digitized and digital cultural content is already, or may be aspiring to soon become, an integral part of cultural heritage. Digitization makes such material available for science, research and education.
